The
Department of Journalism was established in September 1997, being the first in Tanzania to
offer a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism (BAJ). For over 10 years, the department
has produced high-caliber journalists and communication experts who work
throughout the media, in the national and international media/communication
organizations. The department prides for having the teaching staff with
significant experience in the media/communication industry. The department is a
member of several professional and academic associations across the world.
Through JOCID (Journalism for Civic and Democracy) partnership, for more than
five years, the department has been sending and receiving exchange students and
lecturers to and from the partner institutions (Diaconia University of Applied
Sciences-Finland, Metropolia University- Finland, Polytechnic Namibia and Tumaini University,
Iringa).
